The following review written by one of the Software Informer contributors applies to version 11.1
Ashampoo Photo Commander is an all-in-one solution for your digital photo collection. It offers you all the tools you need to organize, edit, enhance, correct, convert, and share your favorite photographs, and the possibility of creating pro-looking slideshows, photo albums, collages, panoramas, and greeting cards with just a few clicks of your mouse.

Though it may lack some of the functions and features that you usually find in high-end professional image editors, managers, or converters, the average photo aficionado will find this application comprehensive enough to cover all his photo-related needs.
From organizing to sharing your best shots, Photo Commander comes with such an array of functions and tools that some inexperienced users may find even overwhelming at times. You can start by loading and browsing your own photo collections, adding tags to them, filtering duplicates, and classifying them using the various criteria provided.

You can then correct and enhance your photos by removing scratches or objects that shouldn’t be there; applying some common color corrections settings; adding stunning effects, objects, clipart, and frames; getting rid of that annoying red-eye effect; rotating, resizing, or cropping them, and so on and so forth. Most of these editing tasks can be performed either to specific pictures or to entire folders and collections. To help less experienced users in these sometimes cumbersome tasks, the program comes with a series of wizards that will help you batch-enhance your photographs in just a few easy steps.

Once you are happy with how your photographs look and they are all neatly organized and classified, you may want to share them with your friends and family. You can do this in different ways – via a social network, or via the traditional slideshow or photo album on CD or DVD. You can upload and share your pictures and videos with your contacts on Facebook or Picasa and with the rest of the world on YouTube without leaving Photo Commander. You can also use the traditional e-mail attachment or the burn-to-disc option to send out and distribute your calendars, collages, photo albums, slideshows, etc.

Though not all possible features are present, and though some of them could use a more professional touch, most users may find that Ashampoo Photo Commander might well be the only tool they will ever need to manage and retouch their photo collection.

Pros

  • Comprehensive set of editing tools complete with filters and effects.
  • Specific wizard interfaces for various tasks.
  • Supports all popular image file formats.
  • Converts your images between formats.
  • Allows you to share your photos in the most widely used social networks.
  • Intuitive and attractive user interface.

Cons

  • Some inexperienced users may find its interface a bit cluttered with so many icons and functions.

I have used 'Photo-Commander' for keeping tabs on video, beginning with one of the earier versions. In it's current version it does this extremely well (and I'm talking 'a lot of video', 83 DVD's of it carrying an entire doucumentary series stretching over several years). I've tried 'the others' for this task, and none measures up. I use 'Photo-Commander' for video, the stills associated with the overall production, music and sound-effects, by using 'file-associations' to tie as much stuff in with it as possible. As a bonus, I have been able to delete several other items of software which claim to do the same thing, but simply don't measure up. 'Photo-Commander' 7 has earned the five-star rating given it by your reviewer, in my view.
